Poetry Slam (aka Hug) January 29, 2009

The words:

inappropriate; ina-godda-davida; breeze, fluorescent; contemplate; discombobble, bramble; memories; pepsi; awkward; independent; languish; condescension

The poem:

Independent Day

It's my Independent Day
There are no strings to hold me back. Until today
Only memories have held me here in this inky pit of
Darkness. And now a fluorescent glare illuminates my need to
Simply let go. I see that
I've languished for far too long in fear of love lost
Condescension spited my desire to be happy
But lately, breezes blew across my universe
With messages on the rolling brambles, whispering
Yes! Yes! Yes!
I contemplate a life lived, a discombobulation
Of reality and find it simply inappropriate to hold on
To the shred of illusion that I am in control
I am coming home now. I want a Pepsi on the rocks.
